Neil Oastler

Minutes and Meeting Secretary

I am currently the Minutes and Meeting Secretary for Oxfordshire Local Dental Committee and have been in the position since 2004.

I am married and live the Vale of White Horse, Oxfordshire with my wife Elizabeth, who also works for the NHS, as an Advanced Care Practitioner in Emergency Medicine at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, and our Labrador dog. Our twin children have long since flown the nest, neither of which have wisely chosen to work in healthcare!

I retired as dentist, Specialist Oral Surgeon, in June 2020 having worked almost exclusively within the NHS for nearly 38 years, the last 26 of which have been in Oxfordshire, working for the Community Dental Service.

Much of my work was undertaking the dental care of adult and paediatric special care patients under sedation (predominately inhalational sedation) and day case general anaesthesia, as well primary care Oral Surgery under local anaesthesia.

I still undertake occasional sessional work for the CDS and the Out of Hours Dental Service, which I also managed from 2006 up until I retired.

I have been a council member of the Association of Dental Anaesthetist (ADA) since 2010.  Additionally, within dentistry I have been a previous Council Member of British Association of Oral Surgeons (BAOS) for 6 years 2012-2018.  I was also a dental nurse trainer and examiner for the NEBDN for the national exam and Certificate in Dental Sedation.  I am currently the Chair of the Thames Valley Managed Clinical Network (Oral Surgery)

I was honoured to be awarded Life Membership of the BDA for services to local and national dentistry in 2020
